Legato Listener

Legato is not the pedal. It is one note still sounding when the next one arrives. Move the slider, press play, and hear that overlap appear.

Two notes and one handover. This is the whole skill in miniature.

Legato

Try this order

  1. Press Hear it detached, then Hear it legato. Back and forth three times. Do not play yet. Just listen.
  2. Drag the slider slowly from left to right and listen for the moment the two notes stop being two things.
  3. Push it all the way right until it turns muddy. Knowing where legato ends is part of knowing where it lives.
  4. Switch to Five fingers and find the gappiest seam. It is usually the thumb.
  5. Now go to the piano and copy the sound you liked best.
